About

History of Keukenhof Keukenhof is a 32-hectare flower park located northwest of Lisse, in South Holland. The park was founded in 1949 and has grown to become the Netherlands’ largest tourist attraction, where millions of flower bulbs from growers in the Bollenstreek region are displayed every spring. Keukenhof’s origins date back to the 17th century, when the area served as a hunting and herb garden for Teylingen Castle. The name refers to this function: a garden for the castle kitchen. Later, the estate developed into Keukenhof Castle. In 1857, the park acquired its landscape style, designed by Jan David Zocher and his son, who also designed Vondelpark. Since its opening in 1950, Keukenhof has grown into a world-famous attraction. Today, the park combines flowers, art, and culture into a unique spring experience that attracts visitors from all over the world.
